Your role and responsibilities

Are you ready for an exciting engineering role where you’ll travel the world, manage commissioning projects, and work with advanced electrical machines? As a Commissioning Engineer within ABB’s Service Supply Unit in Västerås, you will ensure the smooth operation of large-scale motors and generators. You’ll collaborate with global teams, provide technical guidance to customers, and perform on-site commissioning activities—making a direct impact on industries that propel our world forward.

This is an opportunity for an engineer with a keen interest in problem-solving, leadership, and international travel. With 150-200 days of travel per year, you’ll experience diverse projects and cultures while gaining invaluable technical and leadership skills. Your responsibilities in the role include:

• You will commission electrical machines, synchronous motors and generators with related excitation system.
• You will lead work activities, coordinate our work on site and educate operators during commissioning. Each commissioning will imply thorough preparations as well as completion with time sheets and reports.
• You will collaborate with staff from various functions within our unit and provide technical support to our customers.
• Although your base will be in Västerås, most of your work will be performed abroad.
• You will travel minimum 150-200 days annually and in periods of approximately three to eight weeks.
• All these responsibilities will add valuable experience to your repertoire and you will have great development opportunities within ABB.

Qualifications for the role

• You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, within Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power or Automation. Alternatively, you have gained equivalent experience through working.
• You are an experienced computer user who is fluent in English and Swedish, written and spoken alike.
• It is qualifying with experience from PLC programming, relay technology, rotating electrical machines and systems.
• As a person you are an innate problem solver with commercial insight and effective interpersonal skills.
• You are motivated and thrive from having the benefit of frequent travels in your work.
