Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal R&D Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will initiate and drive technology and solution development using your in-depth technical expertise in electromagnetic stirring and metallurgy for the steel and aluminum industry. Your primary focus will be on furnaces applications, but other applications are also of interest. Your work will align with our unit’s strategies and require collaboration with customers and partners in the industry.

This position reports to Business Manager - Commercial&Operations

Your main responsibilities

  • Identify the long-term direction for technology development.
  • Initiate and drive R&D efforts using in-depth technical expertise.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and act as a thought leader within the industry.
  • Leverage in-depth expertise and knowledge of new and emerging technologies or methodologies to ensure the success of R&D projects.
  • Submit invention disclosures and maintain the patent portfolio.
  • Act as project leader or senior project member.
  • Provide support for resolving customer issues, guide and coach on robust root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrate and be known for your expertise inside and outside of the organization.
  • Support junior colleagues in developing their skills and networks.
  • Write well-structured and concise technical reports and/or scientific publications for presentation to internal and external audiences.
  • Provide consulting services to business operations and customers.

Qualifications for the role

  • PhD in Process Metallurgy, Electromagnetics, or other relevant post-university experience.
  • 2-10 years of experience in process metallurgy, electromagnetic analysis, simulation, modeling, and IP management.
  • Experience in the metal-making process.
  • Experience in international collaborative R&D projects.
  • Good spoken and written communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a profes-sional, “can-do” attitude.
  • Fluent in English; other languages like German, Italian, or French are meritorious.
