About the position

This is an exciting leadership position at Norway's newest university. We need you to help us develop further, in collaboration with society and working life. We are looking for a leader who will create results and provide strategic direction for the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences (HHS) over the next four years.

HHS is the largest of our five faculties, with approximately 300 employees and 7,000 students.

As dean, you will lead the faculty's overall activities both operationally and strategically. You will stimulate outstanding results in research and development, and in our education programs. It is your responsibility to ensure good and efficient administrative operations at the faculty. You will lead the faculty's management team, which consists of the dean, vice-deans for education and research, administrative manager, heads of department and PhD manager. You will also lead the faculty council, which consists of external representatives and representatives of staff and students. As part of the rector's management team, you will contribute to the strategic development and profiling of the university's overall activities.

Responsibilities and duties

As dean, we expect you to further develop the faculty as a recognized education and research actor with a clear interdisciplinary, practice-oriented and profession-oriented profile. HHS shall cooperate well internally across the faculty and between other faculties, and externally interact with working and social life regionally, nationally and internationally. The faculty's education and research shall be of high international quality and make key contributions to competence and service development. The Faculty shall also be an attractive knowledge provider and partner that actively creates, manages and disseminates knowledge.

The Dean shall be the driving force behind the Faculty's contribution to business and social development regionally and nationally through its education and research.

The dean must contribute to the faculty creating lasting relationships with working life to ensure relevance in both research and education.

Key tasks will also be:

  • lead and develop the academic activities at the faculty.
  • ensure that the faculty's education, research and development activities are of high quality.
  • lead quality development and necessary restructuring and change at the faculty.
  • be part of the rector's management team with joint responsibility for strategic development and profiling of the university.
  • assume the faculty's responsibility for information and public relations, and make the faculty a visible actor in the region, nationally and internationally.
  • promote digitization and modernization of teaching and working methods at the faculty.
  • facilitate employee and student democracy and ensure employee and student participation at faculty level.
  • contribute actively to the university's work on gender equality and diversity.


The faculty has activities at several campuses, and the dean is expected to be regularly present at all of them. You must therefore expect to do some traveling.


Qualifications

You must have:

  • a PhD or equivalent in one of the faculty's subject areas.
  • documented management experience from complex knowledge organizations.
  • experience in managing education and/or research activities.

It is desirable with:

  • insight into international and national development trends in higher education and research.
  • experience in developing and leading management teams.
  • experience in leading interdisciplinary activities.
  • experience in public relations and collaboration with public actors and business, preferably also internationally.
  • experience with organizational development, leading change processes and development, and strategy implementation.
  • experience and understanding of financial management and management principles in the public sector.
  • commitment to creating a good learning and working environment.

Personal qualities:

We are looking for you who are able to exercise overall strategic leadership and have good system, organizational and business understanding. You are able to carry out processes you initiate and are committed to development and results. You are good at building teams, and succeed in motivating, including and developing those around you. You are a good communicator and relationship builder who thrives on networking.


When we assess which candidate is best qualified, we base ourselves on a comprehensive assessment of qualifications against the requirements as formulated in the ad text. Leadership skills and personal suitability will be given particular weight, in addition to education, motivation and other qualification requirements.

The position and duties will be carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations for government employees, including the Act on Control of Exports of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology, etc. Candidates who, after assessment of the application and attachments, come into conflict with the criteria in the latter Act, may not take up the position. Necessary approvals must be maintained throughout the employment relationship.

About the Inland Norway School of Business - Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences

The Inland Norway School of Business - Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (HHS) is the largest faculty at the University of Inland Norway and has a total of approximately 7,000 students. HHS has a broad study portfolio, with campuses in Lillehammer and Rena, and a decentralized study center in Kongsvinger.
