About the position

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Department of Public Health and Sports Science, has a vacancy for a fixed-term position as Head of Section at the Section for Health and Exercise Physiology.


The Department of Public Health and Sports Science (IFI) has 75 employees and consists of three sections; Section for Sport and Physical Education, Section for Public Health and Section for Health and Exercise Physiology. The department also has several active research groups in areas such as public health, health and exercise physiology, physical education and sports coaching. The Section for Health and Exercise Physiology is located on campus Lillehammer and it is expected that the position holder has an office and residence together with the section in Lillehammer with as much physical presence as possible during core hours Monday - Friday.


The Section for Health and Exercise Physiology has approximately 20 employees. In terms of education, the section is responsible for one year of study (AR Sports, Lillehammer), one bachelor's program (BA Health and Exercise Physiology) and one master's program (MA Exercise Physiology). The section has a total of approximately 40 year students, 150 bachelor students and 30 master students.

As head of the section, you are expected to help reinforce the section's culture, which is characterized by a flat structure with freedom under responsibility, open communication, involvement, trust, generosity, loyalty, and a continuous desire to perform work tasks as well as possible. You are also expected to contribute to the inclusion of colleagues and students in the section's research activities, take the initiative for your own development in research and teaching, be available to students, and contribute to common tasks in the academic environment. The Head of Section is an academic and administrative management position with delegated authority from the Head of Department, and he/she reports to him/her. The position is part of the department's and the faculty's extended management team.


It is assumed that the position holder will teach/research in parts of the position. The proportion of the position allocated to section management will depend on the size of the section, in line with established practice at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.


Responsibilities and duties

  • Lead the work of building and developing the section
  • Responsible for ensuring that the section's activities are developed in line with the adopted strategy and objectives
  • Responsible for the section's research development and operations
  • Develop and operate high-quality educational offerings
  • Together with the head of department, the head of section will ensure and develop good educational quality, including work on quality assurance of digitization and modernization
  • Co-responsibility for financial and resource management in accordance with established frameworks and strategic guidelines
  • Responsibility for ensuring student participation at section level
  • Personal responsibility for the section's employees, including safeguarding adopted principles of involvement and co-determination, and ensuring that the intentions of the Main Agreement, the Adjustment Agreement and other agreements are followed up.
  • Ensure the necessary capacity for restructuring and change
  • Contribute to obtaining externally funded projects
  • Actively contribute to INN's work on gender equality and diversity
  • By appointment: Conduct teaching and own R&D work

Other tasks can be added to the position if needed.


Qualifications

Formal qualifications:

  • Professional qualifications at first position level, primarily within one or more of the section's subject areas ("sports physiology", "sports biologist" and "physical activity and health/activity medicine"). Particularly relevant experience and expertise, preferably related to management, can compensate for parts of the educational requirement. The minimum requirement is a master's degree or equivalent.

Experience competence:

  • Experience from management of knowledge-intensive businesses will be prioritized
  • Experience from the development and operation of networks with actors from both academia and society and working life
  • Experience from teaching and research/development work
  • Knowledge of financial management and management principles in public enterprises is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the university and university college system
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the section's subject areas ("sports physiology", "sports biology", and "physical activity and health/activity medicine")
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in both Norwegian/Scandinavian and English are a requirement
  • Good ICT skills are generally expected

Pedagogical skills:
Documented practical pedagogical education and experience from teaching and supervision at university and college level, cf. Forskrift til universitets- og høyskoleloven. Applicants who are unable to document pedagogical competence at the time of appointment are obliged to complete the university's course in pedagogy or equivalent within two years of appointment.

The position and associated tasks must be carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations for government employees, including the Act on Control of Exports of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology, etc. Candidates who, after assessment of the application and attachments, conflict with the criteria in the latter act, will not be able to take up the position at the University of Inland Norway. Necessary approvals must be maintained throughout the employment relationship.
