Do you want to contribute to improving access to psychological treatment in northern Sweden? At Luleå University of Technology, there is currently a major investment in the subject of psychology with the goal of starting a psychology program. As part of this work, a research group in clinical psychology is also being established that will develop new ways to reach out with psychological treatment to the inhabitants of northern Sweden.
Project description
Norrbotten is a region in transition with major investments in green transition and industry. In the coming decades, the population is expected to increase and cities grow. At the same time, it is a region with large geographical distances and limited conditions to offer psychological treatment to all who need it. Similar challenges also characterize other parts of northern Sweden. The current research project will test new formats to see if they can increase access to the right care. Previous research has shown that guided self-help via the internet can have positive effects for many psychiatric conditions. In the current research project, this will be further developed by mixing on-site and remote visits, as well as using artificial intelligence. The aim is to increase access to psychological treatment for all residents regardless of residence and to make better use of healthcare resources. Examples of potential questions are: 1) how do residents of northern Sweden themselves perceive access to care for psychiatric diagnoses and the possibility of getting help remotely? 2) What are the effects of remote psychological treatment when delivered as guided self-help and with the help of artificial intelligence? 3) What are the effects of psychological treatment delivered in a mixed format, with on-site and remote visits? 4) How cost-effective are the above modes of psychological treatment delivery? 5) How do patients themselves perceive the above modes of psychological treatment delivery? In order to answer these questions, the current research project will be conducted in close collaboration with, among others, Region Norrbotten.
