The Luleå Railway Technology Center (JVTC) is a center formation at Luleå University of Technology that focuses on education, research and innovation in operational safety and maintenance for the rail transport system. The center is a collaboration center where companies, authorities, universities, and the surrounding community together drive development issues in, for example, methods, models and tools to ensure high operational safety and efficient maintenance of both existing and new systems and facilities. The center has existed at Luleå University of Technology since 1998 and has over the years been an important player in the development of the railway in the region. JVTC is now looking for an executive director who can lead and develop JVTC as a center formation and its role in the regional and national innovation system.
The manager's tasks include representing the JVTC in national networks and programs, and developing international and European collaborations. The JVTC has a Board of Directors with representatives from industry, academia and public administration.

Job description
With the support of the board, you, as the director, drive and lead the further development of the center's organization and activities. You initiate and build research and development projects in collaboration with community organizations, industry and universities. You will maintain a close dialogue with funding bodies and further develop the Centre's regional, national and international collaborations. As a manager, you are also expected to actively participate in project work.
As a manager, your main task is to take overall responsibility for the JVTC's activities and its further development. You work operationally in the JVTC's project activities, partly to be able to quality assure them, but also as a qualified performer in certain projects, for example in the role of project manager and/or activity manager.
Qualifications
To be suitable for the role of activity manager, you are expected to have good leadership skills, want to develop those around you, be a good communicator and be able to communicate and collaborate very well with people both in industry, universities, financiers and authorities. You should be a curious, driven and motivating person who, together with your colleagues, leads and follows the activities, and continuously analyzes opportunities and risks.
You are expected to have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Experience in business development
- Experience working in and managing research and development projects (regional, national or international)
- Experience in areas related to center formation
- Understanding of research and development in academia
- Good knowledge of the railway industry
- Good oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English
Merits for the position are:
- A PhD in operations and maintenance engineering or equivalent scientific competence
- A few years of current and relevant experience in business development in academia or equivalent activities
- Some years of current and relevant experience in operations management in academia or equivalent activities
- Leadership skills and ability to manage and develop activities
- Self-awareness and ability to reflect on own leadership experiences
- Demonstrated experience of budgetary or other financial responsibility
- Experience in research and development
- Good understanding of the rail innovation chain
- Project management of collaborative projects in areas relevant to the creation of the center
- Ability to promote good collaboration between different types of organizations
- Ability to obtain external funding for research and development in collaboration with others
- Experience in dissemination of scientific material through the organization of conferences or equivalent
