The positions are a joint venture between the Division of Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Skellefteå municipality. You will work within a driven team conducting research in software systems, distributed systems, network technologies and advanced data analytics as well as knowledgeable domain specialists at Skellefteå municipality.

Subject description
Distributed computing encompasses computing systems and mobile networks that enable mobility, ambience, security and interactivity of computers, data, software and users.
Project description
The projects are run as a collaboration between LTU and Skellefteå municipality, where the scientific purpose is to work with information and communication (ICT/IoT) architectures for data collection, data processing and data analysis to extract information from complex contexts through the application of statistical models, machine learning (ML) methods and artificial intelligence (AI). It includes working on performance, scalability, resilience of platform architectures and algorithm performance for AI/ML. The thematic areas addressed are future new mobility solutions, connected/smart buildings and eHealth including activity recognition, anomaly identification and prediction.
The project will be conducted at LTU's campus in Skellefteå and Skellefteå municipality. Admission to postgraduate education takes place at Luleå University of Technology.
Work tasks
You study courses while performing dissertation work in the form of e.g. literature, article and design studies, design and programming tasks, theory development, analyzes and presentations. The research area is multidisciplinary and of both scientific and applied nature. Scientific work is presented in English in articles in scientific journals and at international conferences. Teaching and other duties at the division and/or department also occur for PhD students.
Qualifications
To be admitted to the doctoral program, you must have basic qualifications and have completed a master's degree in computer engineering/computer science or equivalent, completed courses of at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or in some other way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
You should have a good knowledge of software development and computer science, and good oral and written communication skills in English. Additional knowledge of mathematics and ICT/IoT architectures and the Swedish language is an advantage. Previous research and publication experience would also be an advantage.
To succeed in your PhD studies at LTU, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. We are looking for a talented, analytical and motivated colleague who can perform advanced research both alone and in collaboration with others in our research group.

Further information
The doctoral position is limited to four years of full-time studies. As a doctoral student, you may, to a limited extent, a maximum of 20%, perform departmental duties in, for example, education and administration, which extends the employment for the corresponding time. Location: Skellefteå.
The salary is set based on the established salary scale for doctoral students at Luleå University of Technology.
