Luleå University of Technology is growing rapidly with world-leading expertise in several research areas. We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results, and based on the Arctic region, we create global social benefits. Our scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of almost SEK 2.1 billion per year. We are currently 1,900 employees and have 18,700 students. In the coming years, billions of kronor will be invested in Norrbotten and Västerbotten in major projects aimed at a more sustainable society nationally as well as globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these highly topical research projects and the social transformation that follows. We have a wide range of programs to match the skills that are in demand. We hope that you will help us build the sustainable companies and societies of the future. The Department of Economics is part of the Division of Social Sciences, which, in addition to economics, also includes the subjects of law, political science and history. Within the division, research focuses on various social science aspects of the environment and natural resources. The division conducts both intra- and interdisciplinary projects in which researchers from economics work together with researchers from the division's other subjects. Research collaboration also takes place regularly with academic disciplines from the Faculty of Science and Technology. Subject description Economics analyzes questions about how society is organized to manage limited resources. Research focuses on natural resource, energy and environmental economics. It applies microeconomic theories to analyze the functioning of energy and commodity markets and how these are affected by different policy decisions and instruments. Project description The Department of Economics at Luleå University of Technology is in an expansive phase and therefore needs to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to work in a research project that deals with the possibilities of using mobile phone data and other statistical sources to estimate the extent of fly-in-fly-out labor in different Norrbotten municipalities. The project is based on the fact that Norrbotten already has extensive use of fly-in fly-out labor and that this is expected to increase further in connection with the green transition in the county. There are currently no conditions for measuring this workforce in a reliable way, at the same time as there is a great need from a social planning perspective to know how many people live and work in the county and need services and housing. The research is funded within the framework of a collaborative project between Region Norrbotten, the County Administrative Board and Luleå University of Technology. Work tasks As a postdoc, you will participate in the above research project. You will be involved in the planning and implementation of the project together with other members of the project group and collaboration partners. The work in the project comprises 80 percent of your position and 20 percent departmental service in the form of teaching and course development at basic and advanced levels in economics or other tasks. You are also expected to participate in the collegial work of the subject and the department and to participate in the work of applying for external research grants. As the project investigates the Norrbotten labor market and involves collaboration with local partners, good knowledge of the Swedish language is necessary. The implementation of the project also requires the ability to work independently and with others. Qualifications To be eligible, the applicant must have a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in economics and good knowledge of both English and Swedish. Preference should be given to those who have completed a doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons are defined as leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, positions of trust, or similar circumstances. As an important part of the project will involve processing and analyzing mobile phone data, the applicant should have previous experience of working with such data. Other assessment criteria are, in order of priority - Proven experience in conducting applied research in environmental and natural resource economics. - Excellent ability to take initiative and work in multidisciplinary environments. - Pedagogical skills, such as university courses in pedagogy and experience in higher education are an advantage.
