The Machine Learning group at Luleå University of Technology is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Machine Learning and AI-driven Learning to investigate how artificial intelligence can improve education and be implemented effectively in different sectors. The research will address both technological and pedagogical aspects of AI use and ensure that AI is integrated in an accessible, ethical and impactful way into the education system. Machine learning focuses on methods by which computer systems use data to improve their own performance, understanding and to make concrete predictions and is closely related to applications.
Project description
With the rapid development of AI, new opportunities arise to tailor learning, increase engagement and develop adaptive learning environments. This project explores how the latest AI technologies can revolutionize education. The work will be in line with LTU's broader goal of promoting AI-driven educational innovations in northern Sweden and globally, as well as creating societal benefits and collaboration with industry.
The project will explore how AI can be introduced to students, teachers and professionals in different sectors to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skills development.
Focus areas include:
-AI-driven learning - Exploring how machine learning can personalize learning and increase student engagement.
-Adaptive and intelligent learning systems - Designing AI-based learning platforms that adapt to users' background, cognitive abilities and prior knowledge.
-AI in skills development - Exploring how AI training can be used to reskill and upskill professionals across industries.
Duties and responsibilities
As a postdoc you will:
-Conduct cutting-edge research on AI-driven learning and methods to introduce AI in different sectors.
-Develop AI-based training models for personalized and adaptive learning.
-Explore how AI can be ethically and responsibly integrated into education and skills development.
-Contribute to interdisciplinary projects on AI-driven learning.
-Supervise or collaborate with doctoral and master students conducting research on AI in education.
-Plan, implement and evaluate teaching in LTU's Applied AI program and other AI-related courses or administrative tasks (up to 20% of working time).
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoc with the following characteristics:
-Doctoral degree in machine learning, artificial intelligence or educational technology, obtained within the last three years (or close to graduation).
-Knowledge of AI-driven learning or AI-based adaptive education systems.
-Skills in machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing with application in education.
-Understanding of educational theories and user-centered AI.
-Publications in AI, machine learning and education.
-Proficient programming skills in Python or similar language.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
-Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and dynamic research environment.
Conditions of employment
Full-time position for three years, based in Luleå. Access according to agreement.
