Are you the one?

Do you want to be involved in developing the processes of the future at a global steel producer? SSAB is now looking for 1-2 students for an exciting thesis project where the focus is on optimizing inventory management and improving delivery precision. Here you will have the opportunity to make a difference by analyzing and proposing solutions using AI and Machine Learning.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future of the planet and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for the development of our society and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production and around 2030 we will be largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

The assignment

As a graduate worker at SSAB, you will be tasked with developing improvement proposals that lead to reduced inventory levels, improved delivery precision and optimized ordering processes. The goal is to clarify and document our processes and information flows, as well as identify areas where AI or Machine Learning can be implemented. You will research tools and companies that offer these solutions and evaluate what improvements these can bring in the identified areas. Flexible working arrangements and teleworking are a possibility.

The following steps are proposed

  • Mapping and analyzing SSAB's current processes
  • Identifying possible areas of improvement using AI and Machine Learning
  • Evaluating tools and companies offering relevant services
  • Developing concrete improvement proposals
  • Calculating potential time and cost savings.

About you

  • We are looking for you who have a keen interest in logistics, AI and process optimization. You have good analytical skills and are good at working independently. Relevant education within the university or civil engineering program is a requirement.

Our offer

At SSAB, diversity and inclusion are part of our culture. We apply our values - driven, genuine and ahead of the curve - in our daily decision-making, always with the customer in focus. This makes us all team players, with a common drive to improve. When you join SSAB, you will be part of an organization of passionate problem solvers working together on important challenges. We will support your growth by offering a safe and friendly workplace that is conducive to work-life balance. At SSAB you will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and grow.
