About us:

Stegra, formerly know as H2 Green Steel, is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. But this is just the beginning – our expertise in green hydrogen will enable us to decarbonize other industries in addition to steel, and we look forward to what’s next in store for us.

Head of DRI
As the head of DRI you will be responsible for establishing a strong safety and work culture across the DRI organization. The Head of DRI leads the whole DRI Team and works with other managerial staff to ensure optimum plant productivity with desired product quality, effective preventive and scheduled maintenance planning.

You will be part of our upcoming Boden plant, that is nearing completion with its impressive 145-meter direct reduction tower. We’re leading the charge in transforming iron ore into sponge iron for our steel products and offering hot briquetted iron for greener, sustainable production. Be part of this pioneering movement as we work to create a market for green steel innovations."

Responsibilities: 

  • Build, establish and develop a robust safety culture across the organization and within the section. Take responsibility to contribute to a safe work environment actively participating in the development and upkeep of process control and safety practices.
  • Responsible for effective and unbiased team building, aligning with the purpose, and values of Stegra.
  • Lead the organization in achieving strategic goals and objectives. Set clear organizational goals and monitor progress toward achieving them.
  • Foster an innovative and inclusive organizational culture with focus on continuous improvements and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Build and lead a high-performing management team, providing mentorship and guidance to department heads.
  • Liaise with functional and operational leaders (for example in planning, logistics, maintenance, technology, quality) and together understand current and future needs and develop plans, cost estimates, and schedules for integrating these needs into existing manufacturing activities.
  • Liaise with Senior Management to monitor KPIs and ensure cost-efficiency. Formulate cost controls, develop long-term maintenance plans, and oversee preventive maintenance.
  • Lead the development of major projects for the annual capital budget, 5-year capital expenditure, and CapEx project design.
  • Develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources. Analyse any deviations from the budget and determine if corrective actions are needed.
  • Take the lead in long-term production planning for the plant, including maintenance and shutdown planning, to ensure operational continuity and efficiency.
  • Ensure the organizations compliance with all relevant industry regulations and standards. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Master/ Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical) or equivalent. An MBA degree is valued.
  • Substantial experience in engineering and leadership in Gas Based DRI Plant is required.
  • Proven leadership experienced of leading and ensuring safety in a diverse and high performing organization.
  • Extensive expertise gained from working as the Head of DRI Plant.
  • Thorough in planning, management & implementation of projects, process, equipment & facilities in compliance with ISO & OHSAS standards.
  • Experience in ISO systems 9001/14001/45001.

Competences and skills
We are looking for a skilled and motivated leader to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise along with excellent communication, problem-solving, analytical abilities, combined with impactful leadership capabilities that drives safety, purpose and production efficiency and quality. You have:

  • Strong leadership skills to manage and develop teams.
  • Very good oral and written communication skills in English. Basic Swedish skills are considered an advantage.
  • Developed self-leadership and possess the ability to motivate a multilingual and diverse team of professionals.
  • Flexible to new ideas and approaches, maintaining an encouraging attitude toward colleagues and team members.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools Office suite, CMMS systems etc.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and standards.
  • Proactive and maintaining a high level of organization.
  • Collaborative with cross-functional teams, while staying focused on achieving tangible results.


Location: Boden.

We are looking for people available to start in  2025. We are open for candidates that can relocate.

Timeline application

Step 1: Closing date for vacancy is 30st of November
Step 2: Response from Talent Acquisition Specialist before the 8th of December.
Step 3: Interviews will be held between the 2nd and the 21th of December. The interview process consists of 3-4 interviews.
