Description
The Institute of Space Physics (IRF) is looking for a visiting scientist for the development of automatic determination of ionospheric parameters with data from IRF's ionospheric probes.
Duties
IRF has ionospheric probes, located in Uppsala, Lycksele and Kiruna. The main task is to develop and test automatic determination of ionospheric parameters with data from these ionosondes using AI-based technology. The work will ideally start with data from Uppsala which, due to its lower latitude, is a relatively undisturbed ionosphere. However, it is important to also be able to process data from the higher latitudes of Lycksele and Kiruna in the auroral zone, with progressively more complex ionosphere. The work and results should be described in a technical report or a manuscript for a scientific publication.
Qualifications
Good general knowledge of space physics and AI-based methods is required. Experience in similar work, especially with high-latitude ionosonde data is an advantage.
Terms and conditions
The position is limited to six months and is located at the IRF headquarters in Kiruna. Salaries are set individually. Start in January 2025 or as agreed.
Applications should include a CV and a publication list highlighting the publications most relevant to the position, a short letter (one page) indicating research interests and relevant experience, copies of academic transcripts, and contact information for two professional references.
The Swedish Institute for Space Physics, IRF, is a government agency that conducts basic research and postgraduate education in space physics, atmospheric physics and space technology. Many of IRF's projects are run as large international projects in collaboration with other research institutes and space organizations. IRF has about a hundred employees and has operations in Kiruna (headquarters), Umeå, Uppsala and Lund. More information about IRF.
