Are you the one?
We want to become more! The Swerim Metals Research Institute conducts industry-oriented research and development on metals and their path from raw material to finished product. We are 200 employees in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm. Our vision is a fossil-free and circular industry. At Swerim, we conduct research in collaboration with world-leading manufacturers and users of high-performance metallic materials, such as stainless and high-strength steel and aluminum. The group "Structures in Metallic Materials" has a strong focus on characterization of structure down to the atomic level with the aim of increasing the understanding of the relationship between manufacturing processes, microstructure and properties of metallic materials. The group is responsible for metallographic methods with special focus on electron microscopy. Two areas where we need to strengthen our team are: * aluminum alloys for lightweight applications and electrification * High temperature corrosion and oxidation in relation to the fossil-free transition of industry. About the position. The work will focus on the use and further development of our analytical instruments, especially electron microscopy, and on work related to high temperature applications or aluminum alloys. You will work with both shorter assignments and longer research projects. The work is conducted in close collaboration with industry, other research institutes and universities, both in Sweden and internationally. You will have an independent role while being part of a strong research team with well-established collaboration across the company. There are also great opportunities to influence the future direction of the work based on your own drive and initiative. Qualifications You basically have a civil engineering degree or equivalent with a focus on materials. A postgraduate degree and a few years of industrial experience are meritorious. Overall understanding of the link between process, structure and properties of metallic materials is needed. Below are some additional qualifications that are important for the position: * Experience working with SEM and EDS for metallic materials is a requirement; EBSD and TEM is a plus. * Experience and interest in working with experiments in the lab is a requirement. * Knowledge and experience of working with material behavior at high temperature (corrosion and oxidation) is highly meritorious. * Competence in aluminum alloys microstructure, application and recycling is highly meritorious Who are you? We are looking for you who are basically interested in solving technical problems, take personal responsibility and can communicate your research in English in speech and writing regardless of the target group. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. You are easy to collaborate with, curious and a driven person who likes challenges, responsibility, high pace and is passionate about the possibilities of new technology and focuses on the benefits for industry.
