The Competence Center for Multilingualism in Umeå is a municipality-wide activity that supports preschools and schools with language support, mother tongue teaching and study guidance. Multilingualism is an asset and all children and pupils should have the opportunity to develop and strengthen their languages. The Competence Center for Multilingualism is also a reception unit for newly arrived children and pupils from preschool to young people of upper secondary school age and also offers skills-enhancing initiatives in language and knowledge-developing approaches from preschool to grade 9.
Do you speak North Sami?
Do you speak North Sami and have experience of working with children and young people? Then you might want to become our new colleague! Ideally, you have a teacher training in preschool or school.
Do you live outside Umeå but have the linguistic knowledge and are used to teaching with remote technology? Do not hesitate to apply!
Your work tasks
You will teach students from preschool class to year 9 in North Sami. Students receive 120 minutes of instruction each week. Teaching in a language shower four times per school year is included in the assignment.
The work as a mother tongue teacher includes planning, implementation, grading and evaluation of the teaching you carry out based on the Swedish curriculum.
It is an itinerant position and the students receive local teaching (alternatively remote teaching) at the student's home school from preschool class up to grade 3. From grade 4, it may mean that the student receives their education at another school. We offer a bus pass for travel between Umeå Municipality schools.
Distance learning can be included in the service within the municipality's peripheral schools for pupils from year 2.
The work as a mother tongue teacher includes planning, implementation, grading and evaluation of the teaching you carry out based on the Swedish curriculum.
You are never alone as we work together to develop teaching based on our three keywords language, culture and identity within the framework of our Language Hub; a language hub that brings together the national minority languages from the small child to the almost adult.
About you
You are fluent in spoken and written North Sami and you want to work with children and young people. We want you to have experience of educational work and training.

The position is a special fixed-term employment, part-time 10%, from according to agreement until 2025-06-18.
