Are you the one? Riksgymnasiet för rörelsehindrade is a national upper secondary school for those who need an adapted education due to their physical disability.
Umeå is one of four places in Sweden that has a national upper secondary school for the physically disabled.
We are now looking for an important support teacher!
Your tasks
In your role as a support educator, in addition to meeting the students' needs for support in their care, nursing and contributing to a meaningful leisure time at the student home, you will also be a leader in the development of the systematic quality work. You will work on the basis of pedagogical methods that are proven and advocated by the National Board of Health and Welfare. You will also assist in planning the pupils' schooling and everyday life. Our working methods should prepare students for their future adult life. The work includes the usual household chores.
Working with continuous improvements in the quality perspective regarding pedagogical methods and communication, documentation and introduction of new colleagues in the business are also part of the tasks.
As a support educator, you are part of a network with other support educators where we offer continuous peer support and skills development.
In disability care, we work with co-planning with other activities.
About you
We are looking for you who have the ability to work independently while collaborating within the staff group and with other stakeholders. You are a confident adult and a good role model who has an ability to connect with students. You see each individual and create a safe environment in the student home and work well in collaboration with others. You take great personal responsibility and have patience when dealing with students. We attach great importance to personal suitability.
In order for you to be able to communicate with users, relatives and colleagues, you must have a good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
Requirements:
Post-secondary education in the form of at least 200 YH credits, Support Educator or other equivalent YH education. Alternatively 60 HP in relevant courses towards disability care. Programs and/or courses with a clear focus on work with intellectual, cognitive and mental disabilities. For example in:
- Ethical approaches
- Pedagogical theories and methods
- Alternative and augmentative communication
- Cognitive support
- Coaching approaches.
A few years of experience working with people with disabilities or other work experience that we consider equivalent.
Meritorious:
Experience working with children and young people with autism, intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric diagnoses.
Experience working with children and young people with physical disabilities.
