As Category Manager Engineering Services Nordics, you will have a central role across the Vattenfall Group in the Nordics. You will work in an international and commercial environment where you play a key role in ensuring that we can execute our transition to a more sustainable energy portfolio by providing engineering services at the best possible value.

In this role you will have close contact with all Vattenfall business areas and staff functions in the Nordics and you will drive the regional category planning as well as the business dialogue internally and externally. Your main stakeholders will be within Business Area Generation and you will work closely with the international Contingent Workforce team. Your main responsibilities are:

- Responsible for the category strategy with a short, medium and long term perspective

- Develop and maintain supplier strategy regarding relationships, development and performance management

- Responsible for identifying, engaging and maintaining constructive relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and external partners. This includes understanding their needs, addressing concerns and ensuring alignment with project objectives. Strong communication skills are essential to influence and build trust with stakeholders at all levels.

- Ensure that services are procured and delivered in the most cost effective manner available to Vattenfall in the supplier market (Quality/Service/Technology/Price).

You will report functionally to the Global Category Manager Engineering Services and operationally to the Head of Category Management Contingent Workforce.

Your main tasks:

  • To execute and implement the sourcing strategy for Engineering services to ensure the best/smartest use of Vattenfall's money for each category and market situation; and to achieve the designed strategy.
  • Work closely together with all stakeholders, supporting as a partner, to fulfill sourcing needs within the category, managing expectations, understanding their needs, acting agile and fast towards the market.
  • To analyze supplier markets, including proactive and constant collaboration with suppliers to drive performance management, resolve quality issues and generate market intelligence (by bringing in business intelligence and best practices to Vattenfall).
  • To ensure that services are procured and delivered in the best possible cost-effective way available to Vattenfall in the supplier market (Quality/Service/Technology/Price) while providing value to the business areas in the delivery.Ensure that the value for Vattenfall remains at a high level or increases throughout the contract period, through Supplier Management to mitigate risks and manage compliance.
  • Focus on optimization of existing solutions/supplier base and specific suppliers, including how the business uses them (spend management), but not excluding new needs for supplies/new solutions. Support in the "make or buy" decisions.


Requirement specification


We are looking for an experienced Category Manager to manage Vattenfall's engineering consultancy needs.

  • You have a relevant university degree or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience in purchasing and sourcing. It is an advantage if you have experience in Contingent Workforce.
  • You have a solid expertise and demonstrable experience in procurement and procurement processes in different regions and cultures.
  • You have experience in managing procurement categories with significant spend (+€100 million or more).
  • Knowledge of SAP, MS Office, E-Sourcing systems and VMS systems
  • Experience in strategic supplier management.


To thrive in this role, you need a good understanding of people and different cultures as you will be working with multiple business functions and locations. You have an ability to engage and persuade senior stakeholders and can simplify complex issues and identify the key 20% that drive the remaining 80% of results. You are a collaborative team player who strong interpersonal skills who has strong initiative and sense of responsibility. Finally, you are a strong negotiator and have fluent language skills in Swedish and English.

This role requires frequent travel to our primary places of business and operational locations to oversee activities and foster relationships with stakeholders.
