Business Unit (BU) Vattenfall Power Solutions is a business unit of about 600 people within Business Area (BA) Vattenfall Generation. We train personnel in Swedish nuclear power, supply nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants, develop and implement projects and assignments, and provide internal technical specialist services for all of Vattenfall's operations, Group staffs and stakeholders. This includes activities such as development and provision of training, project management and project support, analysis management and investigation, product development, nuclear safety and dam safety assignments. The focus of the Vattenfall Power Solutions business unit is to develop our capabilities in project management and selected key technical disciplines. We work actively with continuous improvement initiatives and development of our models, where our work and competence create great value for Vattenfall and its investments.

Vattenfall Power Solutions is looking for calculation engineers in nuclear power for Solna, Uppsala and Gothenburg! As a calculation engineer with us, you have an important role in keeping our nuclear power plants running. Your work is about ensuring that our reactors get a safe and efficient nuclear fuel.

About our unit Hardness Physics

We work with advanced reactor physics for both pressurized and boiling water reactors. Our mission is exciting and important, we:

  • Develop the nuclear fuel design used in Vattenfall's reactors at Ringhals and Forsmark. This means that we create core designs and ensure that all safety checks are done before the annual reloads, in collaboration with safety experts. We also review new fuel designs to ensure they are both safe and efficient.
  • Working with the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB), we make calculations for the safe transportation of spent nuclear fuel.
  • Carries out radiation calculations for Ringhals and Forsmark, which is important to protect both personnel and the environment.
  • Also performs calculations for different types of nuclear fuel, both new and existing, in order to always use the safest and most efficient fuel.

With our expertise and careful analysis, we help make Sweden's nuclear power plants both safer and more efficient. We work closely with our partners to develop innovative solutions and meet future challenges in nuclear power.

As a Computational Engineer you will work with

  • Optimization of nuclear fuel and core design for Vattenfall's reactors
  • Validation of calculation codes and models used to create safe and efficient core designs
  • Development of methods and analyses in core physics and criticality calculations
  • Advanced analyses to provide technical support in matters related to reactor physics, both internally and to our partners.

You will work closely with our colleagues in Forsmark and Ringhals as well as with suppliers of nuclear fuel and calculation software.

Requirements

Whether you are new to the job or have worked with calculation and optimization issues before, we are looking for you who have a keen interest in sustainable electricity generation and want to continue to develop with us.

  • You are a civil engineer or have a higher academic degree in science or technology, it is meritorious with a focus on Engineering Physics, Energy Technology or Physics
  • You have good knowledge of Swedish and English
  • B driving license is an advantage (you are expected to plan to take it).

Solna, Uppsala or Gothenburg - please specify any location desired. Travel is a natural part of the work, but we work actively with technical aids to reduce these.
