About the role

Vattenfall Eldistribution is in the middle of the energy transition and has a central role in the powerful electrification that is currently taking place at the societal level. The transition means greatly increased customer interactions where the Customer Information and Insights (DK-CI) group's role is to translate business and market trends into business impact, analyze our customers and build forecasts to understand the growth rate.

We are now looking for a Data Analyst/Analytics Engineer who, together with the existing team, can enable our customers' energy transition by making a dynamic industry-wide power forecast available at the click of a button.

Job description

As Vattenfall Eldistribution owns both local and regional networks, we at DK-CI make two types of forecasts, one for local networks and one for regional networks. The power forecasts describe how much additional power is demanded in our electricity network. For example, in areas such as "Housing", "Electrification of transport" and "Industry and business premises".

Our forecasts are used by many in our business, including to dimension our networks, as a basis for the network development plan, investments and reinvestments, and in dialogue with customers.

As a Data Analyst/Analytics Engineer you are part of the product team "Power Forecasting", which today consists of four people. Over the past few years, the team has made a big journey in how we work, from Excel to a data-driven and automated workflow where Python script is central.

During the first half of the year, we work primarily with the development of our existing product and continue our automation journey. Our focus in the second half of the year is primarily on updating our forecasts.

Examples of tasks you will work on are:

  • Forecast automation: You will automate parts of the forecasting process that were previously done manually, using Python code in a Databricks environment.
  • Methodology development: You will investigate and explore possible improvements or changes to methodology by analyzing customer data and time series data. This includes both well-defined analyses and more exploratory work, as well as collaboration with people who have other competencies.
  • Power BI Reporting: You build new or improve existing Power BI reports. This includes data modeling, improving existing functionality, adding new functionality and implementing calculations.
  • Updating impact forecasts: You update impact forecasts for specific areas. This involves communicating with municipalities and other local grid customers, checking and processing input data, generating quantitative and qualitative insights based on the results, and preparing and presenting material to stakeholders.
  • Data analysis and quality assurance: Investigating the availability of relevant data, collecting and compiling data from different sources, and ensuring data quality and reliability.

Requirements

  • Some years of experience in analyzing large amounts of data, especially customer data and time series, as well as data manipulation, data modeling and reporting results to stakeholders
  • Some years of experience in building efficient and clear code using Python or similar programming language
  • Work experience with visualization software such as Power BI
  • .e.g. Power BI
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Relevant academic degree (e.g. Master of Science in Engineering Physics, Energy Systems or Electric Power, or other relevant technical degree)

We see it as meritorious if you also have:

  • Experience in insight work, forecasting and/or the energy industry
  • Experience working agile in SCRUM teams or equivalent knowledge
  • Experience working with AI/ML
  • Experience working with SQL or equivalent

To be successful in the role, you will have good communication skills that you can use to convey insights from data to your stakeholders in a clear way. It is also important that you have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The role requires you to have good interpersonal skills and be able to switch between working independently and in a team.
