About the role

About the thesis

The nuclear power plants in Forsmark are boiling water reactors, BWRs, manufactured by Asea Atom Sweden. These reactors are dependent on both high and low voltage switchgear. The internal power supply for a nuclear unit uses switchgear for mainly 10kV, 6kV, 500V AC. There are also a number of DC voltage levels. A large number of these switchgears have been in operation since the plants were started.

The question is how have these switchgears and components aged?

Components to focus on are enclosures, insulators, terminals, internal connections, etc. and how aging can be detected on these specific parts.

The thesis will be carried out at the Electrical Engineering unit, which is responsible for electrical design in the areas of Electrical Power and Automation, in both major and minor projects, during changes and modernizations in Forsmark's plants. You will join an exciting environment where we work together and during your development you will collaborate with competent colleagues in the immediate group and with other groups within Forsmark's organization.

This assignment is for a student.

About Vattenfall

We at Vattenfall are determined to make fossil-free living possible within a generation. To succeed, as one of Europe's largest energy companies, we must first become completely fossil-free ourselves. But that is not enough. To contribute to a fossil-free society, we need to do more than just focus on sustainable energy production.

Because we are convinced that if we are to make it possible to live fossil-free within a generation, we need to look at the challenge from a broader perspective than just producing energy in a sustainable way.

Follow us on the road to a fossil-free life.
