the role

Do you want to help shape the climate-smart society of the future and contribute to the development of a sustainable electricity grid?

At Vattenfall Eldistribution you get the opportunity to do just that. Vattenfall Eldistribution operates a critical infrastructure that distributes more than half of all electricity produced in Sweden - and now we are facing an exciting transformation towards a data-driven business. We build, maintain and operate a safe, reliable and efficient electricity network. Our operations and a secure electricity supply are crucial for society to always function and develop.

With us, you will be part of a driven and curious organization that works together to secure the electricity supply of the future. You get to influence, work strategically and operationally, and contribute to creating both societal benefits and innovative solutions.

The Metering Unit

The Metering Unit has overall responsibility for all management linked to electricity meters - from equipment in the field, collection of meter values, communication with electricity traders and technical equipment, to field services and invoicing. We are organized in seven groups, and in this role you will belong to the Automation & Analytics group.

We are facing a paradigm shift where we need to accelerate the transition to a fully data-driven way of working, to meet society's and industry's increased demands for reliable, stable and sustainable electricity supply.

Your role - Creating real change with data

We are now looking for a Strategic Data Scientist. You are offered a workplace with good development opportunities, a good working environment and nice colleagues who help each other. As a Strategic Data Scientist, you will play a central role in developing and implementing data-driven ways of working within the Measurement unit. You will be part of a cross-functional team consisting of software developers, process developers, key users and experts, where you together support the business with analysis, automation and decision support. The role involves both technical and strategic responsibility - you work practically with advanced analysis tools while identifying needs, creating structure and driving change with a focus on business benefits. Together with the team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring high quality and efficiency in both our electricity supply and our data delivery.

Your role as Strategic Data Scientist

  • Holistic perspective: Create structure and coordination where responsibility is currently fragmented - gather threads and ensure that different parts of the business work towards common, data-driven, goals.
  • Data-driven culture: Establish working methods where data is used as a basis for decisions, priorities and follow-up - both operationally and strategically.
  • Needs analysis and prioritization: Capture and understand needs from different parts of the organization, analyze what is most important to develop first and create consensus around it.
  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in existing ways of working and lead the development towards more efficient and sustainable processes.
  • Collaboration: Create forums and ways of working where people from different functions meet, share knowledge and create solutions together.
  • Tools and systems support: Ensure that the right digital tools and systems are in place - and that they are used in a way that provides real value.
  • Measure and follow up: Establish clear goals, key figures and follow-up routines to be able to follow up on development and ensure results.

Requirements specification

  • Master's degree in industrial engineering, technical mathematics, computer science, or equivalent academic education.
  • Good experience of analytical work in Azure Databricks (or equivalent tool such as SQL or Python) and Power BI
  • Experience in contributing to a data-driven culture in large companies
  • Experience in detecting, managing and resolving data quality deficiencies
  • Experience in implementing business process migrations from legacy systems to modern solutions
  • Good communication skills in speech and writing, both in Swedish and English.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience in leading, coordinating or running working groups, projects or initiatives
  • Experience in the electricity industry
  • Experience in data-driven organizations

We are looking for you who like to take initiatives and have the ability to take a holistic approach and lead the development towards a more coordinated, data-driven and insight-driven organization. We are looking for a results and change-oriented person with a natural analytical ability who can contribute to our operational capability in a often fast-paced everyday life. You are motivated by improving operations with the help of data and you prioritize between initiatives based on benefit. You are responsible and self-motivated, which, combined with your experience, means you can easily drive work forward on your own. You value collaboration and contribute to a learning organization by actively sharing your knowledge, and can adapt messages based on the audience.
