SKB's mission is to manage spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants so that human health and the environment are protected in the short and long term.

SKB has started the contracts to expand the existing facility for low and intermediate level waste, SFR, as well as preparatory work for the Nuclear Fuel Repository. SKB's Project Department is responsible for the implementation of programs, projects and assignments at the company.

About the thesis

The aim of this thesis is to analyze and investigate whether dewatered, nitrogen-containing sediments from the bilge water that arises during tunneling for the Nuclear Fuel Repository in Forsmark can be sold on a local or regional market.

The background to the work is SKB's ambition to reduce the environmental impact of its operations by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

The aim is to provide SKB with information about the content of the sediments, investigate opportunities to use the sediments as, for example, fertilizer locally or regionally and calculate the climate impact of the various disposal options

This assignment is for one or two students.

  • Civil engineering education in soil and water, Agronomy education with a focus on soil science or similar.
  • Scope 30 credits
  • Language skills: Swedish and English, fluent in both speech and writing
