Company description

At Vattenfall, we are determined to make fossil-free living possible within a generation. To succeed, as one of Europe's largest energy companies, we must first become completely fossil-free ourselves. But that is not enough. To contribute to a fossil-free society, we need to do more than just focus on sustainable energy production.

Because we are convinced that if we are to make it possible to live fossil-free within a generation, we need to look at the challenge from a broader perspective than just producing energy in a sustainable way.

Join us on the road to fossil-free living.

Power Climate Smarter living - that's our purpose. We are looking for talented students to help us on our journey towards fossil-free living. Writing a thesis at Vattenfall gives you a unique opportunity to contribute to our purpose. All we ask of you is to unleash your superpowers and share your energy with us.

About the role

About the thesis

  • Summary of the work group/department

The components group within the maintenance technology unit at Forsmark Power Group is responsible for the procurement and management of spare parts, analyzing and managing the need for new and replacement of obsolete equipment.

  • Scope/Mission

Technical Obsolescence is becoming an increasingly prioritized and important issue for us. Our KPIs to measure the impact of the obsolescence program need to be reviewed and if necessary adjusted or completely replaced.

  • Objective/Purpose

Present best indicators/KPI/metrics to measure technical obsolescence

  • Suggestion for thesis

The thesis would include evaluation of existing indicators/KPI/metrics we currently use to measure technical obsolescence and provide suggestions for improvement.

  • Background to proposal

Discussions have been held at several nuclear power plants around the world and also at Forsmark on how to best measure and monitor the status and progress of technical obsolescence. As nuclear power plants work with different processes and have different conditions, it is difficult to know how to best measure progress and what is a good measurement result.
