Company description
Enabling fossil-free energy that drives society forward - that is our purpose. We are looking for talented students who want to help us on our journey towards fossil-free By writing a thesis at Vattenfall, you get a unique opportunity to contribute to our purpose.
About the role
SKB's mission is to take care of the radioactive waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants in a safe way. Through our mission, we contribute to fossil-free electricity production and a sustainable society.
The thesis will be carried out within the Technology Department, which has a company-wide mission to design and develop all of SKB's nuclear facilities.
SKB has instructions and routines for rock engineering and for the control and maintenance of rock spaces and rock reinforcement. Now that new, large underground facilities are being planned, it would be desirable to introduce LCC thinking in the planning of these. At our existing facilities, the Final Repository for Short-Lived Radioactive Waste (SFR) and the Interim Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel (Clab), LCC analyses could also be used in investment decisions linked to maintenance measures.
The purpose of the thesis is to develop proposals on how LCC analyses can be used consistently in SKB's daily operations when planning new facilities and also during maintenance work in existing facilities.
This assignment is for 1 student.
Requirement specification
We are looking for a student who wants to work towards fossil-free and who will soon graduate from your academic studies. You are also someone who identifies with our principles: Active, Open, Positive and Safety

Diversity and inclusion - in everything we do
SKB's mission is to take care of the radioactive waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants in a safe way. Through our mission, we contribute to fossil-free electricity production and a sustainable society.
We have just begun the expansion of the final repository for short-lived radioactive waste, SFR, and are doing ground preparation work above ground before we can start building the final repository for spent nuclear fuel in Forsmark. In a few years, we will also build an encapsulation plant next to the interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, Clab, in Oskarshamn.
SKB's head office is located in Arenastaden in Solna. We also have offices in Oskarshamn and Östhammar, where we have facilities in operation and prepare for construction projects.
On our website, www.skb.se, you will find more information about SKB.
Since Vattenfall and SKB are part of the Swedish critical infrastructure, many of our services are security classified. This means that, if this position is classified, the final candidates may be subject to a special security clearance in accordance with the Security Protection Act.
