Company description

Vattenfall Vattenkraft is responsible for Vattenfall's 90 hydropower plants and about 300 dams in the Nordic region. We are about 500 employees in Sweden and Finland with headquarters in Luleå. Hydropower's renewable electricity production is a prerequisite for creating a climate-smart and fossil-free society where we play an important role as an enabler for the sustainable energy system of the future. Our production corresponds to about 25% of Sweden's total electricity needs. To deliver high availability in our production, we need to constantly challenge ourselves, develop our working methods and take advantage of digital opportunities. You will be an important part of that work!

About the role

We are now looking for a manager for Environment and Permits, as the current manager is planning to retire and we are now looking for his successor.

The Environment/Permits department is part of Vattenfall Hydropower's Technology Unit, which is responsible for Vattenfall Hydropower's technology management, dam safety, permit and environmental issues and plant management.

The department ensures environmental work within Vattenfall Vattenkraft through control, follow-up and guidance. The department also manages obligations for the company's and external properties, which follow from permit decisions.

We also work to provide Vattenfall's power plants with modern environmental conditions when these are to be reassessed over a 20-year period according to the national plan for modern environmental conditions (NAP). We are also implementing measures to promote biodiversity in regulated waters.

Some of our upcoming challenges include hydropower's large-scale plant investments and dam safety and environmental measures, as a consequence of climate change where sustainability issues are in focus.

Hydropower is growing due to the green transition and at the same time it needs to be greening with modern environmental conditions. This is challenging and highly rewarding work with opportunities to make a difference and contribute to a sustainable society. The ability to balance between environmental benefits and power generation is a prerequisite for the role.

Examples of your responsibilities and tasks:

  • Manage and lead the Environment and Permitting department
  • Driving permit issues in the renewal of power plants and dams and reassessment according to the national plan
  • Management and supervision of permits granted and maintenance obligations under water rights
  • Support operations in compliance and self-monitoring of the external environment and requirements arising from the EU Water Framework Directive
  • Contacts with authorities and dialogues with various stakeholders
  • Management of the environmental management system according to ISO14001
  • Contribute to research and development projects in the development of new knowledge in the environmental field
  • Conduct and manage real estate issues such as contracts, rights of use, claims settlement and regulatory fees
